NICOSIA - KHIROKITIA Full Duration 8 hrs.
Traveling along the motorway, first stop at Khirokitia, one of
the earliest settlements in Cyprus dating back to the beginning of the 6th millenium B.C.
Break for coffee. We arrive to Nicosia capital of Cyprus, located in the center of the
island. We will pass by the Presidential Palace and the tour continues along the Dividing
Line, the Venetian Walls which contain the old city to the Archbishopric and the modern
town spreading outside the walls, the Gate of Famagusta, the Statue of Liberty, the
Archbishopric of byzantine style, the bronze statue of Archbishop and Ethnarch Makarios
III within the premises of the Archbishopric, the Cathedral of St. John, with its
beautiful frescoes and the Byzantine Museum. Then passing by the House (konak) of
Hadjgerogakis Kornessios the most imposing 18th century building in Nicosia, we
end up for lunch and shopping at the Popular Neighborhood a restored pedestrian area, a
small oasis within the walled city: A charming old neighborhood with traditional houses,
shops, taverns, galleries, all restored as typical examples of architecture. Break for
coffee on our way back.
