TROODOS MOUNTAINS - KYKKO MONASTERY

Visitors of the mountain resorts will appreciate the natural beauty of the environment, the charm and hospitality of the people. First break for coffee on our way up to the mountains. Driving through the central square of Troodos. Passing below the Mount Olympus the highest peak of the island, we continue our tour, stopping for photos on our way. We then reach the richest and the most famous monastery in the Island, Kykko Monastery, founded in 1100 A.D., and dedicated to Virgin Mary, in the reign of Byzantine Emperor A. Comnenos, who gate the holy picture of the Virgin Mary with the Child, believed to have been painted by St. Luke. At throne, 2 kms west of the Monastery we will visit the Throne and the tomb of the first president of Cyprus Archbishop Makarios III. Panoramic view of a great part of the island, 1320 m above sea level. Break for lunch at the principal village of Marathasa Valley, Pedoulas. While in Pedoulas, it is worthwhile to visit the famous 15th century church dedicated to the Archangel Michael. Important note: According to the rules, visitors of monasteries must be properly dressed (no shorts, no low cut blouses).
